About Café Central
In the traditional Viennese café, which was opened in 1876, well-known people from the world of art, literature, politics and science met to discuss the great issues happening in the world, as well as events in Viennese society. Famous writers even used the Café Central as their creative workplace: Franz Kafka, Alfred Polgar, Robert Musil, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Arthur Schnitzler and Sigmund Freud were included amongst the regular guests and the poet Peter Altenberg was so closely associated with the Café Central that he gave it as his place of residence. Today the Viennese, who appreciate the large range of national and international newspapers, visit the well-known Viennese coffee house to the same extent as visitors to Vienna such as culture enthusiasts who wish to experience the traditional coffee house atmosphere.
